Leeds Year of
Volunteering
|
2010 is the Leeds Year of
Volunteering - a celebration of the amazing work already happening in our city
and an opportunity to promote volunteering and encourage more people to get
involved.
Volunteering has loads of benefits for individuals, communities and
organisations. People who volunteer gain confidence, learn new skills and
develop a real sense of belonging to their communities whilst helping to
improve the quality of life for local people. Organisations benefit from the
skills, enthusiasm and time of a diverse volunteer workforce.
It’s a great time to get involved! There’s a year-long programme of events on
different volunteering themes co-ordinated by Leeds City Council and Voluntary
Action Leeds involving lots of other public, private and voluntary sector
partners.
Safer Leeds will be holding an Awards evening on Thursday
30th September where we will be recognising volunteers whose contribution,
helps to make a Safer Leeds. I hope
that you will be able to nominate those people who really deserve some thanks
for everything that they do.
There are 5 main categories:
Young volunteer of the Year
The Individual community volunteer award
Long service volunteer of the year
Team of the Year
Overall Winner
As part of our activities we will be holding an event on
Briggate, Leeds on Thursday 16th September where agencies will be
showing you what volunteering opportunities there are available so please come
along.
