Background
Safer Leeds is the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership for the city, it was established following the introduction of the Crime and Disorder Act in 1998. The Safer Leeds vision is for people to be able to live without fear for their own safety, or the safety of others and to secure sustainable reductions in crime and disorder and the fear of crime.
The Safer Leeds Partnership Plan aims to reduce crime and the fear of crime in communities around Leeds. The plan is the product of a year long process of public consultation. It includes proposals to tackle those problems of greatest concern for people in Leeds.
The plan covers the period 2008-2011 and outlines five main outcomes for the city
Creating safer environments by tackling crime
Improving lives by reducing the harm caused by substance misuse
Supporting victims and reducing the risk of victimization
Reducing offending and managing offending behaviour
Improving community confidence and public satisfaction
The Safer Leeds Partnership has an Executive and a Board. The Board meets quarterly and the Executive monthly. Membership comprises a number of responsible authorities and organisations.
The Executive
The Chair of the Executive is Neil Evans, Director of Environments and Neighbourhoods.
The Safer Leeds Executive comprises of Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police Authority, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Local Strategic Partnership, Leeds Primary Care Trust, West Yorkshire Probation Service and Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber.

The Board
The Chair of the Safer Leeds Board is Councillor Les Carter
The Safer Leeds Board comprises of Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police Authority, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Yorkshire Probation Service, Prison Service, Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber, CASAC, Leeds University, re’new, National Treatment Agency and Leeds Voice.

The Safer Leeds Partnership Team undertakes a wide range of work to support the partnership. This work includes:
- Servicing and supporting the Board and Executive to deliver the strategy
- Assist the strategic leads to deliver the priority areas
- Performance Management through analysis of crime data
- Work with Divisional Community Safety Partnerships
- Undertake project work in the areas of community safety
- Produce press and marketing campaigns
- Develop a range of approaches to tackling Hate Crime
- Develop and update service plans across Leeds Community Safety
